AQUILO VIII
Introduction
The AQUILO VIII was an evolution from AQUILO VI. For the first time in the history of the rocket team, a rocket featured 2 motors in one rocket. What makes it so special is the innovation and engineering behind it, as this requires an overhaul of our classic flight systems. The rocket had a launch attempt in May 2023.
Design
The rocket is based on our most reliable chassis, the one of AQUILO VI. This helped the team focus more on the dual stage mechanism including the reliability of the system as well as the final goal of the rocket.
Flight
AQUILO VIII was set to fly on the 12th of May 2023. After numerous delays during the integration procedure, we did manage to get to the launch pad. Where upon lift-off our booster motor PB-51 (Legacy RM-67) suffered an overpressure due to an improper cast of the fuel grains. About 7 metres onto the launch rail the endcap was blown out, destroying the booster, and propelling the sustainer to a height of 130 metres.
