Design & Testing of a Liquid Engine Ignition System
Location: Delft, Netherlands
Start Date: 1 September 2025
Duration: 5 months (Full-time)
Overview:
AQUILO Rocket Team is developing its first liquid-fueled propulsion system—and we’re looking for an intern to lead the charge on its ignition. This internship focuses on designing, simulating, and testing a reliable and safe ignition system for our in-house liquid rocket engine. You'll explore ignition criteria, analyze different ignition methods, and create a working prototype ready for testing.
Your Mission:
Conduct literature research on ignition methods for liquid propellant engines
Design and simulate a feasible ignition concept for AQUILO’s liquid engine
Build a prototype and test setup
Perform safety assessments and create documentation
Independently test the system and analyze performance
What We’re Looking For:
Background in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, chemical, etc.)
Basic understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and chemistry
Hands-on skills and a passion for testing and problem-solving
Motivation to work independently within a student-led rocketry team
What We Offer:
Internship compensation (approximately €350)
Flexible and collaborative working environment
Real-world rocketry experience with future implementation potential
Access to team expertise and prior research files
Legal support regarding testing and safety procedures
